Long description: This folder contains telegrams, memos, and reports from the to the State Department largely concerning Polish mediation between the United States and the People’s Republic of China regarding American interests in Southeast Asia, with a particular emphasis on Vietnam. The PRC-US Ambassadorial Talks in this folder took place in Warsaw between US Ambassadors John Moors Cabot (until September, 1965) and John Gronouski (after November, 1965) and the Chinese Ambassadors Wang Bingnan (until April, 1964) and Wang Guoquan (after April, 1964).

Short: Contains documents on the day-to-day affairs of the American embassy in Warsaw.
Long: These documents concern the day-to-day issues that arose at the American Embassy in Warsaw, including requests from the Embassy for instructions from the State Department. Messages also include information on events in Poland which might interest the State Department. In general the documents concern efforts to foster a cooperative relationship with the Polish government, while also remaining “firm” when grievances arise. There are references to retaliation for specific actions, with explicit concern for keeping such retaliation proportionate to the relevant grievance so as not to endanger broader policy goals. The negotiations with Chinese representatives over the future of Vietnam also make appearances, as in other folders in this box.

Short: Contains documents on the challenges of fostering cooperation with the Polish government. 
Long: This folder focuses on cross-curtain cooperation and the development of U.S.-Poland relations, with some documents dealing with internal Polish politics. Notable themes and topics include: postmaster general Gronouski’s invitation and trip to Poland; development of trade with Poland; Polish internal politics; concern for Polish-American views and recognition of Poland’s postwar borders; meeting with ambassador to Poland Cabot, who apparently needed mollifying; discovery of listening devices in American Warsaw embassy; American attaches discovered spying on Soviet aircraft in Poland; Gronouski sworn in as new ambassador to Poland; special report on Church-State relations in Poland. Some documents also deal with historical commemorations. 
 
Folder 8 (43 documents) - Jan. 1964 - Jan. 1966
Short: Contains varied correspondence between the State Department and the American embassy in Warsaw. 
Long: This folder contains correspondence between the Polish embassy and President Johnson’s administration. There is correspondence with ambassadors Gronouski and Drozniak covering the escalating crisis in Vietnam and Laos. There is also a memorandum detailing a meeting between Polish and US representatives regarding the instability of the German partition between east and west. The box also contains memoranda regarding the improvement of East-West relations through economic policy.
