The actual future is the one we never expect.

We can read the past in the trees, ice, and rocks that surround us, but what happens when we chop the last tree, crush the last mountain, and melt the last ice sheet? Will we look to each other and weave tall tales about a past filled with mountains, forests, and solid lakes? Will our children's children believe in them as we believe in fairy tales of dragons and mermaids today?

The longer ago something happened the less of it we can see. This is the nature of time verses observation. Further back in time, evidence decays, disappears, puzzle pieces go missing.
