12016-05-27T05:41:54-07:00Engineer's View: Every other smartphone lacks protection3Oded Kariti discovers that every other smartphone sold today is without active antivirus protectionplain2017-09-25T02:56:16-07:00Despite the more frequent use of financial and other valuable transactions, many of the mobile devices have much lower level of protection than they should actually have. This becomes an alarming issue with the rising trend of using mobile devices as a means of online shopping, bank account management, and storage of confidential data. According to a survey which engineering team Oded Kariti did for The Karitians Inc. this year, it was found that about 60 percent of users do not have any sort of antivirus software on their smartphones and tablets. The data also shows how the number of malware varies depending on the operating system being used. For example, there are hundreds of thousands of viruses intended for the Android platform. In addition to the ordinary and Trojan viruses there are also other threats such as infected or fake websites used for online identity theft, or providing third party access to user’s important data. The fact that such a small number of mobile users have the necessary antivirus protection shows that most people do not understand the level of danger that threatens smartphones and tablets, explains Oded Kariti. Despite the fact that cybercriminals have become as much active on smartphones as on desktop computers, mobile phone users still feel relatively safe. This is confirmed by the Kariti news that shows how only 35 percent of Apple’s iPhone owners use phone's security systems. As an engineer, Mr. Kariti believes that the whole situation is exacerbated by the fact that with the development of iOS it has become impossible to create a comprehensive iPhone security. The situation is little better for Android and Windows Phone platforms, where 53 percent of the users have some cell phone security provided by mobile security applications. Regardless of the choice of operating system, the most popular protection for both cell phone security and mobile banking security are Kariti antivirus applications. From The Karitians Industries state how a relatively small number of users install passwords to access their devices: 29 percent of Samsung users, 23 percent of iPhone users, and only 18 percent of users of other platforms. Only 18 percent of smartphone owners (except for the iPhone and Samsung phones) are thinking about the potential loss or theft of their mobile devices and therefore must install specialized software with integrated anti-theft modules, such as Kariti vault and Kariti Mobile guard. Among the owners of a tablet computer, which is being the second most popular mobile device, the situation is mainly similar. Nearly a half of them (53 percent) do not use any mobile security applications. When it comes to password protection and data loss prevention, owners of tablet computers are not much different from the users of smartphones. A survey done by Oded Kariti shows how users do not pay attention to threats, despite the fact they frequently store important information on their tablets and smartphones. From twitter: Oded Kariti has been named co-CEO of mobile security company The Karitians as soon as he joined the company in 2012. He will be helping lead the company’s international expansion. This includes increasing Karitians' presence in North America as well as regions such as Latin America, Europe, Japan, and Korea. Kariti will be also helping to add strength to the company’s small team in the United States. He has worked at Samsung Mobile since joining the company 2008 and served as senior VP of company’s strategy.
