Conclusion

The NRC moved from a grand Beaux-Arts idiom to a Streamline Moderne idiom. Although architecture is often arbitrarily applied to buildings of various functions, the Streamline Moderne buildings of the Montreal Road Campus show the relationship between architectural styles and social processes at the time of their construction. The fact remains that although scientific research informed the streamlining of architecture, there is no functional aspect to its application at the research facility. It does however represent the fast-paced intellectual production taking place within its streamlined walls.
