Wil-Dog Abers

Voices of LA Festival | The Krupnick Festival of the Arts An Initiative of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles

Wil-Dog Abers is the bassist for the Grammy-winning band Ozomatli, known for its alt-Latino-world fusion sounds. Raised by his culturally Jewish grandparents on the eastside of Los Angeles, Wil-Dog still identifies with his Jewish upbringing and has created successful collaborations in the past with internationally known Yiddish artists. In addition to his work with Yiddish music and his band Ozomatli, Wil-Dog has a developed a love for banda, one of Mexico’s most iconic musical genres. Under the name “El Gavachillo,” he composes and sings with some of LA’s most prominent bandas, such as Banda Viento de Oro.
