Phranc: The All-American Jewish Lesbian Folksinger
Phranc (Susan Gottlieb) is a California singer-songwriter. She began her career in the late 1970s punk scene in Los Angeles with her first band Nervous Gender which was influential in the development of electropunk. In 1980 she joined the post punk and new wave band Catholic Discipline, and was also in the feminist, all girl punk band, Castration Squad.
In the 1980s she began playing acoustic guitar, and performing folk music. She called herself the "All-American Jewish Lesbian Folksinger" and opened for such acts as The Smiths, Violent Femmes, and Billy Bragg.
