Implement
I apply research tools I familiar with to progress my research. Most of these tools are applied to retrieve information, extract useful information from massive papers. These tools include website of Scopus, website of science scape and search engine of google.
Scopus
Scopus is a database includes large number of articles. I choose it as my main search engine for several reasons:
- It contains enough ‘good’ papers for social science.
- It can search two or more key word at a time.
- It can preliminary exclude papers I do not need.
- Its results can sorted by citation times.
- It has time range analysis functions, which will show when the climax of specific research topic is.
- Its results can be uploaded to ScienceScape for further analysis.
Its website address is Scopus.
ScienceScape
ScienceScape is a website based software, and it is very useful tool for choosing research topic and literature review. Its functions are:
- Visualize and download networks of keywords and/or authors and/or journals, and more.
- Visualize and download networks using a landscape of references.
- Visualize how many papers are published each year in one file.
- Visualize and download the use of each keyword over time in one file.
- Visualize the most used keywords each year in one file.
- Visualize and download the journals publishing the most papers over time in one file.
- Visualize journals publishing the most papers each year in one file.
- Visualize the main authors, keyword, journals and how they are related.
The first function and the eighth function can work together to determine the main research topic in an area, and understand group of people who conducted on specific area; the third, the fourth and the fifth functions are very useful to understand the prosperity and decline of a specific research topic; the sixth and the seventh function help people to understand the relationship of research topic and journals, which is very useful for select journal for publication.
Its website address is ScienceScape.
Google Scholar
Google scholar is a simple, powerful and very useful search engine. Its research result is not selected, and will contain all the papers from different database. It is very useful because it can give out all the information exists. I signed for the scholar alert of “WEEE” and “e-waste”, which gives me a chance to browse the title and abstraction of the latest published articles.
Its website address is Google Scholar.
