Walsen Mines

Fred Walsen opened the first coal mine in the the region that would come to bear his name in 1876, and several more have been added in the years since.

As most of the EICs do not specify which "Robinson" or "Walsen" mine in which they had worked, and we do not currently have individual numbers for each of these specific mines, the four individual mines that are commonly referred to as Walsen and Robinson have been combined on this page.

County: Huerfano

Years of Operation:

Walsen (Cucharas): 1878-1923

Robinson #1 1887-1931

Robinson #2 (Walsen): 1910-1929

Santa Clara: 1881-1891

Total Production (tons): 12,368,429
