The Machines Rise

    "What is this..."

"You are in disbelief, but I am here to inform you.  Long ago humans fought in wars.  But the casualties were too great, humanity itself was in jeopardy.  You would think our technology could have prevented such tragedy..."

The man swiveled his chair slightly.

"But our people spend their time and intelligence to enhance their ability to get packages delivered more timely.  That Amazon Prime Air... it was the beginning of what many jokingly called 'World War Roomba'."

    He turned back to Mark.

"Artificial intelligence was used to 'deliver packages more effectively'–drones flew with immediate knowledge of their package's metadata.  People's address, work hours, shopping habits–all apparently needed  to make online shopping less of a chaotic mess."

"Some people feared the growing presence of the streamlined technology.  Others were paranoid of their information being shared and used by large companies and faceless machines.  Most  people became upset that machines had the potential to think for themselves–how long was it until humans were no longer needed?"

"Separatists began to wage war between advocates of the new technologies–ones with mental capacity without human emotion.  Satisfying the need for a war, manufacturers of the robotics designed a weapon that the small minority of rednecks could fight and easily defeat.  But the robots were not defeated.  'The Predator' model–as they called it–was no longer mass produced.  The leftover models were sent to some hole in the desert to remain forgotten–eventually they would be destroyed."

    "... But they were reclaimed."
