Map

Insight

This is another summary of the text using locations as the focal points.  The map illustrates the main locations Huck and Jim visit or want to visit.  The map provides a visual aid of the lengthy journey a small boy and a runaway slave undertook.  The blue line is if someone today decided to walk the same beginning and end journey Huck Finn traveled.  Mapping can be used in many ways to dissect the text of a novel and give a almost "3D" look giving the reader something else besides the normal text.

Location Summary

Huck Finn’s adventures start in St. Petersburg, MO which is based on Hannibal, MO.  Huck is then kidnapped by his father and taken to a cabin across the Mississippi River.  After faking his own death, Huck hides out on Jackson Island until forced to leave with Jim.  They continue past St. Louis and accidently pass Cairo, which was Jim’s destination.  They stop at Grangerford’s Farm after the raft is temporality destroyed.  With Huck busy with the Grangerford family, Jim was able to rebuild the raft.  Continuing down the Mississippi River, Jim and Huck pick up to scam artists and events following leading to Jim being sold to a family deeper in slavery territory and Huck going after him.  On the Phelps’s Farm, Huck, Jim, and Tom have all their problems solved leading to a happy conclusion.
