Importing Media from Shoah Foundation VHA Online
The USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive is a collection of nearly 52,000 testimonies of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses maintained by the University of Southern California's Shoah Foundation, established in 1994 by Steven Spielberg. The VHA Online is a collection of 1000+ video testimonies which the archive has made available to the general public, and this importer allows access to those clips. To import materials from the larger archive, you must be located at at partner site and use Scalar's Shoah Foundation VHA (partner site) feature.
To import media from the Shoah Foundation VHA Online, click the menu at the top of the navigation on the left side of the window and select "Import". Next, click "Affiliated archives" and then "Shoah Foundation VHA Online". The Shoah Foundation VHA Online Importer will appear, with an option to perform a search of the archive. Note that you must already have the XML feed URL for a collection you've previously assembled at VHA Online in order to import those videos into Scalar. You can get this URL by clicking the "XML for Scalar" option in VHA Online.
Once search results are returned, you can preview individual files by clicking their "Preview" links on the right, or select one or more videos to import by clicking their associated checkboxes. Then, clicking the "Import selected media" button at the bottom will bring the media's metadata into Scalar.
