Embodiment

There are different threads of embodiment found in the interviews. The gesture towards embodiment connects to our other themes, but this path specifically people’s understandings and engagement with embodiment.

There are discussions about people with disabilities dancing with people without disabilities – there is an interaction across embodied difference that several interviewees referenced.

Related to that is the individual feeling of one's own body moving, or being in the space, or working on a computer, or playing an instrument. This is another example of embodiment that people discussed in relation to connections between their bodies and other bodies. Embodiment was not always comfortable – at times it was very discomforting and stressful, but most found value in these moments of discomfort because of the opportunities for community building and for what one of our participants calls “points of contact.”
