Fort Snelling and Guantánamo as Sites of Detention

The strongest similarity between the two spaces are their histories as sites of detention. This section will include statistics and images to highlight the implications of being detained. While Guantánamo currently houses detainees and has a strong history of violent detention,  Ft. Snelling is currently a national historic landmark, and its history is greatly contested between those that maintain the site and contemporary Dakota people who advocate and implement differing narratives and purposes and programs at the site.
