This page contains additional audio visual materials which can be used to enhance individual and collective knowledge. These resources include documentaries on hip hop, diasporas, resistance and migrancy. There are links and embeds to additional artists whose work has been powerful in shaping my critical understanding, but whose sonic resonance did not fit into the soundscapes I created. This process and project has also been a reframing of sites of knowledge and a reconceptualizing of archives.

Jennifer Stoever-Ackerman's use of the Oxford English Dictionary as a site for defining the term which she seeks to deconstruct is both ironic and humorous to me. It is such a complex piece of sonic coding, her ability to code-switch in speech, to convey multiple meanings, to find resonance on multiple levels. Its humorous as well, because of my own social condition within coloniality, I think, write, speak and try to communicate in decolonial narratives and yet Jennifer’s words gave me great meaning from within using a supporting weapon in the coloniality of knowledge’s arsenal, the homogenization of language and meaning (i.e. the Oxford English Dictionary), this is really an aside to this page.

This page is about sharing additional archival space with you. I have conceived of this archive not as magisterial residence, public office and government, but as home, community and mocambo (not big enough to be quilombo). Magisterial residence and home could be analogous, if only home were given the same respect and value for everyone. There is no hierarchy in this home (this archive), it is the modest pulling together of resources to create meaning, my scope of knowledge is often limited, but if the meaning and knowledge I have gained can be shared, then I believe in sharing, the essence of hospitality. In framing archive as comm(unity), I believe in reciprocity. If my access to resources can help enhance someone else's knowledge, growth and development, then I believe people should use the resources. In framing archive as mocambo, I believe in an archive as exilic space. Archives should not deny access, live behind paywalls, or decided what knowledge is privileged. I recognize that my personal scope and capacity are limited, that is why this project can be annotated by others, commented on, and will hopefully continue to grow. If we conceive of an archive of a space of home, comm(unity) and exilic refuge, then we must practice concepts of accountability and reciprocity, if the resources exist to support counter hegemonic cultural producers, writers and even scholars within the academy, then please make sure their labor, time and creations are valued (even if it is within the constructs of monetization) however, I know the experience of needing resources that could not be obtained because I could not afford the access to scholarly articles, books, and media. This project would have been enhanced by more open spaces of culture where sharing and access were easily permitted.
