Loss of old rice crops

The reason "Sabriti" variety is popular because the rice is tasty and also is not sticky. We used to grow "suhawat, deduwa, sothiyari, kalkajawa, and burma". "Burma" is the oldest rice, I think, I have known it since I was little. Nowadays this rice [Burma, deduwa, sotjiyari, etc.] doesn't give the kind of yield that we used to get then so people stopped harvesting them. Because many old rice varieties take longer to mature, the wild animals would feed on them as the older varieties would be still green [October-November] and the loss was too great. The hybrid variety is harvested early thus there is less loss due to wild animals. So this was another reason that people stopped planting these rice.
