Sarah Hoagland

Lesbian Ethics: Towards New Values (1989) "In this book Hoagland argues that it isn't because we are free and moral agents that we make moral choices but it is because we make choices at all and act in spite of limits that we then think of ourselves as moral beings. "The overall thesis of the book is that the values from anglo-european ethical philosophy undermine rather than promote lesbian connection. Challenging control in lesbian relationships, the book develops an ethics relevant to lesbians under oppression — one which avoids both blaming the victim and victimism, embraces the spirit of lesbian resistance, and encourages plurality."
