Conclusions

This study has shown that ETA was, at one point, a very dangerous terror organization. In order to prevent future violence in the name of Basque nationalism, it is important that we understand how and why these attacks took place. ETA declared a ceasefire in 2011. However, this doesn't mean they will never be a threat again. Basque nationalism has deep roots in that part of the world, and it would be extremely unwise to discount Basque nationalist terrorists as a future threat. The possibility of a networked terror group in Spain, that collaborated with other international terrorists, is a situation that must be considered and addressed. ETA as an organization has lost much of its power, but history shows that this group is resilient and fanatical in their ideals.
