Bellam was born in Ireland in 1839. He graduated from Racine College in 1862 and was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Kemper in 1865, His first post seems to have been as rector of Trinity Michigan City, where he served from 1865 to 1866. A year later he lived in Ashtabula County, Ohio, and married there on 14 February 1867, Eliza Maria (Hubbard) Attenborough. He has not been found in 1870, but in 1880, he lived in Golden, Colorado, where he did missionary work. He moved to Eureka, Nevada, and in 1893 to Wadsworth, Nevada. In 1904, when the Southern Pacific Railroad moved its operations to Sparks, Bellam moved with his congregation. By 1920, he was no longer a priest and instead was listed as a "train man." He died in San Francisco on 26 July 1928 and was buried in Masonic Memorial Gardens.
