Rev. Thomas Byron Kemp

The Rev. Thomas B. Kemp was born in England, but the date varies in different census records. In the 1900 census, it was stated that he was born in April 1824 and had immigrated in 1851, probably with his wife, Elizabeth, who was also born in England. He was ordained tot he diaconate by Bishop H. W. Lee in 1867. In 1868, he moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa, and he did missionary work nearby at Marshalltown. He eventually came to the Diocese of Michigan City and was assigned tot he mission of Emmanuel Church in Garrett. The mission closed in 1899. In 1900, he continued to live in that town, and Bishop White announced his retirement. In his Annual Council address, White called him the "oldest living missionary of the American Church Missionary Society." He died on 13 September 1909 in Kankakee, Illinois.
