Rev. Arthur Edgar Gorter

The Rev. Arthur E. Gorter was born in Baltimore on 15 November 1871, the son of Onno Gosse and Carrie (Edmundson) Groter. He graduated from Seabury Western in 1897 and was ordained by Bishop Nicholson. He married Carrie Lewis. He did initial parish work at the towns of Kilbourn and Delton in Wisconsin. In 1902, he became rector of St. John's Church in Henry, Illinois. He served St. Paul's, La Porte, Indiana, from 1906 to 1908, and then moved to Louisville to become rector of St. John's Church in 1909. He remained there until transferring to the Church of the Epiphany in Louisville, where he was stationed in 1920. He died in Louisville on 14 January 1898 and was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery.
