Kim BR 12-Venngage

This week I tested out another infographic program, Venngage. Of the infographic programs I've tried out, I have to admit this was my least favorite. This definitely had the fewest templates available in the free version compared to Pikochart or Easel_ly. I also found in harder to manipulate design details like font integration and centering or lining items up. A feature that could be considered both good and annoying is that any editing you do to font or to an item (i.e. change size color, etc) is done in a side task bar and needs to be saved before you can move onto something else. This is good because it makes sure that all your changes save since they are done individually, but it was also annoying every time I would click on something else within the infographic that I would get a pop up reminder asking if I wanted to save or cancel the previous change before I could move on. One thing I did appreciate though was the ease of incorporating online images. I appreciated not having to download and then re-upload them into the program. Venngage is easy to embed onto the web, but you need to use the paid version to download your infographic as a pdf. Since I am exploring these programs for my activity of creating a flyer, I would like students to easily be able to download and print a copy.

This week I looked at Kevin's Piktochart and Amy's Quizlet.

Like Kevin, I really enjoyed Piktochart, though I liked his suggestion for a brochure, since I had been thinking of this program mostly for posters & flyers. I really liked the videos he embedded into his infographic, and thought they added a lot of depth to the notes that supported the point of BR 12. I didn't work with videos with Piktochart, but it's good to know this is a function of the program.

With Quizlet, I had a lot of fun playing the games in Amy's notes, and I think this was the perfect platform for the technical scientific content of the chapter. I really will need to check quizlet out to see about its ability to facilitate collaboration. I also need to think on what content from my composition course a platform like this would be helpful for.

Comment on Kim's BR 12 Vengage (Heather)

Despite the program being harder to work with, your infographic looks great! OMG the idea of saving every single edit would drive me bonkers! I also think it's important that you shared that there are fewer templates since I am not very visually creative and would need to depend on a template for my product. Thanks for sharing!

Kevin's comments on Kim's Venngage

I like the design of venngage. The picture seems organized. It's too bad that it doesn't have very many templates and that this was your least favorite. I like piktochart. However, it is good that it is easy to upload pictures.
