Brain Rules 11 (Heather)-Evernote
This week I chose Evernote because it is available across devices. Last week I played with a technology that was exclusively for iPads, and I decided that I would like it better if it could be also used on my laptop. Evernote is free ($5 or $10 per month charge for upgraded use) and is available for the iPad, phone, or on my computer. It is web-based so it syncs across devices, which is important if you work at home on a computer, but take your iPad to class. It can be used to take notes, to store photos or images, documents, audio clips, or web clips. It allows standard-style notes, but also pinterest-style visual clips. Also, you can input a to-do list and set reminders like you would on a time management tool. This is my first time playing with Evernote. I chose to access it from my laptop, so I cannot speak to the user friendliness of the iPad or Phone app versions. I also chose to access it from the web, so I did not install the app on my computer (though, if I had, I would have had increased functionality).
Using it: It seems to autosave, which is almost required, as you work. It also has a spell checker that suggests as you go, which is handy.
UPDATE: I decided that I wanted to play with the web clipper functionality. So in the end, I downloaded the free app to my Mac. AND because this got fun, I downloaded the Free evernote web clipper, which lets me play with the pinterest part of it. Oooooh, Me Likey! I hit sync and it moved everything that I had worked on on the web into my app, but with the app, I have the option of emailing my note, sharing via URL, or exporting to PDF. It still looks like you have to pay for a premium to use the presentation function, though. When I clip a web page, it will take the article on the page, the link, a screenshot, or a number of other options. SUPER COOL!

Comment on Kim's BR 12-Vengage- Despite the program being harder to work with, your infographic looks great! OMG the idea of saving every single edit would drive me bonkers! I also think it's important that you shared that there are fewer templates since I am not very visually creative and would need to depend on a template for my product. Thanks for sharing!
Comment on Mike's BR 12 Twine- Mike, I was unable to access your twine from the link posted. That said, if you hated it that much, I'm not sure it matters since I would never want to bite-off working with an impossible program. I had BR 11 this week, but since you love BR 12 so much, I will have to go back and read that chapter! Thank you for your bluntness.
