2. The narrator now realizes that it holds the life of the fish, a living thing, in her hands. While the fish is able to cut her, it has just been impaled with a hook and is now gasping for breath. She had been caught up in the moment for so long she forgot that this creature has to be under water to live. So, she better make a decision quickly.
