3. The turning point in the poem. All of a sudden, he hears a bird signing. He does not understand how any creature could feel joy at such a bleak time. Even though the speaker cannot fathom why this bird would bother signing, especially since no one can hear it, he can still appreciate happiness when it’s around him. So, maybe things are not as bad as he once thought?
