Humoral Medicine

The four humors are phlegm, blood, black bile, and yellow bile. It was believed that these four liquids, or "humors," were related to health and balance in the body. It was only when all four humors were in line that a person was healthy. It was also believed that a person's personality was determined by their natural balance of humors. Each humor related to a season, an element, an organ a quality, certain personality traits, and health.
