You have died. The strain of trying to hold a family home together and the monotony of your chores combined with the inability to take care of your family was too much. Suicide seemed like the only relief from your misery.

While Suicide wasn’t a common event, it did happen when people became so discouraged by their situation that it seemed like the easiest solution. Both men and women committed suicide. Men, because they couldn’t care for their families and were forced to sit idly by while their families deteriorated and starved. And women, because they had nothing to give their children, their husbands were becoming despondent and they were sometimes secluded from other people due to travel distance and the difficulty of women not usually driving cars.
