Personal Narrative
Blog platforms allow individuals and groups create content and design. Blogs are
used for a variety of reasons. Some are personal, corporate operated, theme-based,
etc. For example, most Tumblr accounts consist of those venting out emotions.
Wordpress.com was a blog platform I hadn’t heard of before. I was familiar with other
platforms such as Tumblr, Blogger, and Weebly. During previous semesters, I
used blogs for class assignments. Posting text and photos was nothing new to
me. Even though Wordpress’ interface was unfamiliar to me, I knew the base of
what every blog interface has. It didn’t take long before I was able to use
Wordpress somewhat efficiently. While there were still things to figure out and
explore, I was able to post, create pages, add media, and customize the
background.
As the semester went on, Wordpress became part of my every week. To avoid dullness,
students were encouraged to not only write, but design, each blog post.
Rhetorical design was taken into consideration in every assignment. Creativity
is valued as much as the content. I learned that writers of online content are
not only writers but designers as well. I never thought of a website’s design.
Not only that, I never thought about those who write and code to create a
website, such as a blog generator like Wordpress.
Each week I posted a blog post. We had a different assignment every week. It was
interesting and fun to design each post. Personally, I felt more drawn to add a
YouTube video along with my post since it combined visual and audio elements. I
find that it is more stimulating and interesting. However, some posts do not
have a video. Instead, they contain photos. Writing daily was an experience.
