Conclusion of analysis of Ultra Red and Digital Storytellers
The programming in Ultra Red does fulfill the first portion of Freire's pedagogy in that it provides an opportunity for participants to hone their word in action and reflection and thereby name their world in a manner that claims their position as subjects rather than objects of oppression. It fails, however, to provide a means for sharing this word and continuing the dialog which is a crucial component of Freire's pedagogy. Digital Storytellers, on the other hand, provides a culminating event that creates a space for the revolutionary leaders to commune with the people in dialog where the power of the word can be shared for the purpose of collective liberation. Ultra Red participants would be excellently suited to take part in the process of creating and performing spoken word poetry and thereby sharing their experience of listening to the world and gaining perspective of their subjectivity amidst systematic oppression.
