Conclusion
In conclusion, scholars were aware of the
radical role changes the reader was going to have with Digital Literature since
the nineties, and Landow shared his findings, but his work was overshadowed by
the negative responses. Works like Disappearing
Rain and Galatea
demonstrate that the reader does participate in authorship because of the
interactivity they have with the work and the flexibility they have to navigate
whichever way they please. In order for Interactive
Fiction to develop a plot in a story, there needs to be a reader
interaction with the work. Without the reader there is no story, besides a
webpage stored in a hard drive. Each time the reader literally writes questions
to develop the plot, they are automatically co-authors of the piece. Hypertext,
is also very flexible and interactive with readers. The infinite hyperlinks and
paths allow the reader to jump around and fallow a story in a non-linear way. Therefore
each reader will create a unique story, different from the next reader.
