Introduction

Most people think of their favorite song as a unique piece of work, and of course in many ways, each piece of music is. But hidden behind the catchy melodies of the majority of compositions lies a secret set of patterns that show up constantly. This essay will hopefully shed light on the hidden patterns and math that construct what we consider to be contemporary Western-European music. We will look at the structure of music, the patterns that we find to be pleasing to hear, and the “hidden gem” patterns that construct the majority of popular music.

Note to the reader:
The first few chapters are a little dry and technical, but don't be overwhelmed by the lingo. The fundamental takeaway from this is patterns. They're everywhere. Just like learning math, before you can understand "1+1=2" you need to learn what the "+" and "=" signs mean. This is no different, and essentially just as simple once you see the patterns revealed.

Additionally there is brief language in one or two of the videos that might not be suitable for minors. (Just one or two f-bombs, nothing terrible).

Please enjoy your journey!
