Conclusion

In conclusion, we have taken a long look at one organization on the forefront of the movement behind computer science.  Code.org is an organization that is tackling the computer science movement, by helping people become aware of how easy it can be to code a program and how essential it is for people to learn how to code.  Code.org does this as a dual-pronged mission, one that allows them to advocate for a cause while simultaneously educating people about the thing they are advocating about.

While nobody can predict the future of computers, it is certain that they will become a significant part of each person’s life.  In fact, computers already touch each part of a typical person’s life today.  Even if you never own a computer of your own, computers are embedded into cars, timers, and many more commonly-used items.  Even traffic lights are controlled by computers and traffic light cameras are controlled by computers.  Due to the ever-increasing number of computers being used, many more programmers are required in order to tell them what to do.  Computers may be excellent at taking orders and doing things that would take humans years, but like the Daleks from Doctor Who, they do one thing best, and that is take orders.

If the skills gap is going to be filled, one place to start is by teaching people who are willing to learn about code how to code.  Many people may be a bit reticent towards learning code because it requires learning a new skill.  However, for those that choose to learn code, it can go a long way to supporting a fast-growing industry representing the future of our lives.
