Your Music, My Music, Our Music: Cincinnati Women Musicians at King Records and Today

Janet Brace

Janet Brace, born in 1927 in Charleston, West Virginia, recorded four songs with King. Check out her emotionally dynamic vocals on “An Orange Colored Sky” and “Oceana Roll,” both recorded for King in 1950. Unfortunately, not much is known about Janet— but significantly, she went on to record the original version of “Teach Me Tonight” in 1954, which went on to become a jazz classic. She later produced an LP entitled Special Delivery with ABC-Paramount.
