Eastern Culture Nucleus: Chinese Rare Books in the USC Libraries

Timeline

Chinese rare books are broadly defined as printed books and bound manuscripts produced before the establishment of the Republic of China in 1911. Titles printed or copied from early time to the Qianlong 乾隆 reign (1736-1795) of Qing dynasty (1644-1911) are usually considered as fine editions 善本. The earliest Chinese rare book at USC was dated to 1515, which corresponds to the last years of Zhengde 正德 reign (1506-1521) of Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
