E-Poem - Weavers

E-Poem "Weavers"

What does it mean to write an e-poem? Mine is not interactive. But it never would have worked without images--not only did I gather the video first, the words second, and the audio last, but the words alone would not hold the sort of meaning I want them to: the promethean Arachne references, the repeated imagery of dance and machines, the multiple readings that "two feet, opposable thumbs, large brain" imbue, and so on. Not to mention the way I could control a reader's pace through transitions of text, and paint out connotation with contrasting geometric and calligraphic fonts.

The first construction of Weavers was a live poem, though I cheated a little and cropped some videos together at the end. It took several tries and was quite demanding--I've never felt quite so testy at the various "helpful" functions on my computer before. But I also had never thought of my screen as a canvas in that way.

Please read the annotations!

It was actually harder to orchestrate the pre-recorded e-poem. I felt higher expectations. I added and subtracted clips, worked on my timing, could add effects and alter appearance better. You can see it below, and at the end of my portfolio I walk through it in a video so that will tell you more.
