Labor, Page 129

This famous scene from Anchors Aweigh (1945) features a dance routine combining live action and animation between two stars: Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse of Tom and Jerry.

The scene demonstrates a coming together of experimentation in dance (pursued probably most famously by Kelly and by Fred Astaire in their uniquely filmed dance numbers) and in animation. It also underscores the common roots of vaudeville, minstrelsy and the Broadway reviews from which, in part, Hollywood film and popular American animation sprang.
