Attack on Underrepresented Groups

There are some soldiers enforcing the sign that says that the unemployment office and public schools are closed due to the military budget. Over time, the military budget has only kept on increasing, taking away money from things that actually matter. Funding for public schools has decreased significantly, while things that are totally not necessary get more money. The people that suffer from this cutting of funds are mainly low income communities, often of color. The U.S. already is among one of the most powerful countries in the world, and spending money on defense for wars that should not have happened in the first place is not wise. Why does the U.S. need a military that big? What will that accomplish? People are left legitimately scared, when they should not be. The U.S. military targets low income schools for recruitment, with the appeal being free college or a path to citizenship, because they know this is a result of inequality. The appeal of having a path to citizenship is taking advantage of undocumented immigrants, knowing that many people would do anything for citizenship. This is a country that doesn’t want undocumented immigrants, but hey! the more recruitment the merrier. This mural is criticizing the U.S. military and its priorities. It’s showing how the U.S. has never really been on the side of Latinxs.
