give up/ give in

Stanley
went quiet and receded back into the bench that he carried with him
from the previous reality. He was stunned that this is what it came
to. His mind being fixed and reconnected just like the computers he
did the same with everyday for the past ten years. Had he lost
control of his life even here, the purgatory of his mind? He didn't
see any other way out of it and nodded informing the woman of
consent. She smiled and started sinking the within the skin of his
head, the computer flicked on.

This
isn't personal or anything, as you may have guessed, it's purely
business. But I do take pride in helping you people, giving you a
reason to keep going. It's really heart warming, I think.” She
said as she started typing on the keyboard, Stanley staring straight
ahead, noises coming from all around. The lack of control was all he
had left, so he decided to stick with it. But deep within his mind,
he knew he could do something different. See the world in a
different light if he tried. And he was gone.

Or
rather, back. He was looking at his ex-wife, no, wife. She kissed
him and his endorphins were released signaling a happiness being
experienced within in him. She then stepped back, smiled, a serene
glow, and said, “I'm going to work, be back tonight. Love you
have, fun with your app!” And she left.

He
looked at the screen and saw he was coding again. Being creative and
appropriating himself as a person, started smile. I think I'm happy,
he thought. He started coding exuberantley and typing the keys with
a precision unparallelled.

A
drone of feedback gently rang in the background and began to build
ever so slightly.
