The World of Pooh

AA Milne - fiction - 1957 - p. 80

An anthology of A.A. Milne’s 20 whimsical Winnie-the-Pooh stories, The World of Pooh also features full-color illustrations by Ernest Shepard. The stories follow the adventures of Christopher Robin (named after Milne’s own son) and living versions of the boy’s stuffed animals: the bear Winnie-the-Pooh, named for a World War I mascot; Piglet: Eeyore, a gloomy donkey; Kanga and Roo; and Tigger, an enthusiastic tiger. Milne himself conceived the characters Owl and Rabbit.

Milne was a versatile writer who also authored poetry, plays, articles, novels and nonfiction; much of his nonfiction focused on the topic of war, and his service in World War I made him a vocal pacifist.

Key elements: Europe; father figures; juvenile literature
