Kenneth Clark was a British art historian famous for critical works written both for public and scholarly audiences. He also wrote, produced, and narrated the BBC series Civilisation. The Nude: A Study in Ideal Form addresses representations of the human form throughout  the history of Western art. Clark was heavily influenced by the work of John Ruskin, a prominent art critic and painter throughout the Victorian Era.
