Founded in 1925, The New Yorker is a weekly arts and culture magazine that features short fiction, poetry, political cartoons, criticism, and journalism. It is generally considered a highbrow publication, and in 2009 the average household income of its readers was over $109,000 and their average age 47. Its illustrated covers frequently offer commentary on politics or current events; particularly renowned are a 1976 cover by Saul Steinberg referred to as “View of the World from 9th Avenue” and a 2001 cover by cartoonist and graphic novelist Art Spiegelman as a response to the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.
