The Haunt of Fear

EC Comics - comics - 1950 - pp. 62, 63

This anthology of horror comics was a companion to Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror and comprised 28 issues in total. Horror comics gained popularity with post-World War II audiences, which preferred more graphic, risqué content over traditional superhero fare. Each story is told by one of three narrators: the Crypt-Keeper, the Old Witch, or the Vault-Keeper. Graham Ingels served as the lead artist for the series, though other artists contributed as well; many consider Ingels to be the genre’s master.

Key elements: art, frame narrative, Gothic
