No Sex Please...We're British

Alistair Foote and Anthony Marriott - 1971 - play - p. 162

This farce, written by British dramaturgs Alistair Foote and Anthony Marriott, centers on bank employee Peter and his wife, Frances. Intending to order glassware by mail from a Scandinavian company, Frances unintentionally receives a deluge of pornography and erotica that leads to a number of mortifying situations with other Brits including Peter’s supervisor, his mother, and a police officer.

The play was immensely popular among general audiences in England, but it found less favor with critics. Members of the middle class enjoyed its physical comedy and innuendo, though the original production itself contained no actual pornographic material.
