Morning's at Seven
Paul Osborn - play - 1939 - p. 132
Set in a Midwestern town in the late 1930s, the play Morning’s at Seven revolves around four adult sisters who live in close proximity: unmarried Arrie lives with Carrie and her husband, Thor; Ida and her husband, Carl (who is prone to “spells”), live next door; Estie lives in a different part of town and must visit surreptitiously against her husband’s wishes. As they age, some of the sisters begin to regret the decisions they’ve made and start to work to redress them--and the impact is felt by the entire family.
The original production ran on Broadway for 44 performances; the play has been revived twice and adapted for television.
Key elements: marriage, mental illness
