Looney Tunes

Warner Bros. - television shows - 1930-1969 - pp. 174, 175

Produced by Warner Bros., the animated series Looney Tunes and its companion show Merrie Melodies brought viewers now-famous cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, and more. Many of the characters, such as Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, were pitted as constant rivals with escalating gags in attempts to best each other.

In addition to its charming characters, however, the show also included numerous racial and ethnic caricatures; it is thus no longer aired on television or available for sale through Warner Bros. Its production falls within the period often referred to as the Golden Age of Animation.

Key elements: art, juvenile literature
