Hardy Boys: Cabin Island Mystery

Frank W. Dixon - novel - 1929 - p. 141

Number eight in the long-running, franchise-authored Hardy Boys series, The Mystery of Cabin Island features the sleuthing brothers and their friends Chet and Biff caught up in a new case while enjoying a Christmas vacation on the titular island. They are victim to a number of small crimes including burglary and vandalism, which coincide with the son of the island's owner going missing and a foreign dignitary’s search for lost medals.

Initially conceived by Edward Stratemeyer in 1927, the series featuring the brothers Frank and Joe has remained popular ever since, with periodic updates aimed toward political and cultural correctness. The books have been authored by a number of ghostwriters under the pen name Frank W. Dixon, similar to the “Carolyn Keene” of the popular Nancy Drew franchise.

Key elements: crime, juvenile literature
