A Study of Mrs. Hudson: Conclusion

The descriptions of sidelined and contained female characters are more or less a summary of the major part of Mrs. Hudson’s involvement in the BBC show 35 years later. Therefore, while some advancement in terms of her sass and personal strength as well as in her presented personal importance are to be celebrated, there is clearly room for improvement. However, the character of Mrs. Hudson over the years and across media adaptations does appear to reflect contemporary phenomenon and her presence in fan engagement with the world of Sherlock Holmes across media provides an encouraging look at fan interest in strong female characters. She may consequently be considered as a mirror for both societal trends and for fan interest and craving for a strong, sassy, self-assured woman in the world of Sherlock Holmes.
