Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Missoula, July 3 - [Special to the Independent.] - Missoula will celebrate the national day in genuine metropolitan style. The city is gaily decorated with trees, flags and bunting and the races at the fair grounds promise to be as interesting as any that may be witnessed In the territory. The horses entered are nearly, if not all Missoula county stock, but some of them are blooded. The purses amount to about $ 4,000, and in most cases are sufficiently large to make it an effort for the contestants to put forth their best efforts. Excursions will be run on the Northern Pacific and Bitter Boot railroads. The famous Twenty-fifth infantry band will be on the grounds to add to the enjoyment of the occasion, and a base ball match will be played in the morning.
