Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

ASSISTANT SECRETRAY OF WAR MEIKELJOHN AND PARTY IN MISSOULA.
They But Stop at the Depot However and Then Speed on to Vancouver — Met by Col. Burt.
At the depot today when No. 1 pulled into the station were Col. Burt, Adjutant Pardes and Quartermaster Shattuck and the 25th Infantry band to receive Hon. G. D. Meikeljohn, assistant secretary of war, and party.
The party which is traveling in the Missouri Pacific private car Magnolia, is composed of the following gentlemen:
Hon. G. D. Meikeljohn, assistant secretary of war; J. C. Scofield, clerk of the war department ;Col C. E. Ware, of St.Louis; Capt. Geo. F. Chase, of the 3rd cavalry at St. Louis.and G. A. Deane, of St. Louis.
As the train stopped the band struck up tune, the party alighted from the car and was received by the officers from the post. The stop was but a short one and the party proceeded westward without stopping to visit Mort Missoula as was originally intended.
The trip is being made by Mr. Meikeljohn as a tour of inspection as well as pleasure; an itinerary of forty days has been planned for the trip, which is to be from St. Paul to Vancouver, Washington, including most all of the military posts on the way. A longer stay at Yellowstone Park and Helena than was intended necessitated the party altering its plan in regard to stopping here.
