Late for Lecture
Description:
My design is of Scotty the Bear in my art style with a Tartan Soul sash around his body. Along with the iconic bell tower next to him. My personal experience as a student on campus inspired me to make this design. I hear the bell tower that chimes every hour, no matter where I am near campus. It reminds me of my hometown, where I live near a church and the bells chime every hour. It’s very nostalgic to me, and hearing the bell tower at UCR takes me back when I’m feeling homesick. I also drew Scotty rushing to his next lecture, realizing he was late once he heard the tower’s tune. I think this can be relatable to almost every student, as we bustle through campus, whether it’s our first day of class or if we accidentally sleep in. On Scotty’s sash, there is a citrus pin and a heart pin, representing UCR’s well-known citrus trees and welcoming community. My submission is a great representation of student life at UCR, as well as university pride.
About the Artist:
My name is Katelyn Robles (she/they), and I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate student at UC Riverside, majoring in studio art. I am a queer Mexican-American artist who wants to share my passion for creating. My inspirations come from my nostalgic experiences and pop culture media.
