Director’s note: The paper begins like the play, and the entire process itself: an empty space, a bare stage. Once someone enters, they do not leave.
Enter YANNICK TRAPMAN-O’BRIEN.
21. Actor. Artist. Quite soon to graduate, and not nearly soon enough. Prone to over-thinking. Needs something to work on to keep himself busy or else he cannot stay out of his own way. Knows how to be correct, working on learning to be true. Barely-contained capacity for utterly superfluous verbosity.
Me, for short.
I like to work alone, because I want to be able to control every detail. And yet, I have to talk to someone to think, because I feel I don’t really comprehend half of my thoughts until I try to articulate them four or twenty times. And so collaboration and retelling have always had a place in my work, and my normal process is one of rehashing and trying again and bouncing a piece against a wall for a while. I am nothing if not in response to something.
